Below is the bulk of the major information you will need to know to fully enjoy this RPG. Please read it carefully and present any questions to an administrator.
Please remember that these are simply the facts of this RPG, not necessarily of the musical itself.
About Lives
Jellicles don't have the same life span as humans nor your average house cat. To try to clarify this...
-Each human year is concidered 4 Jellicle years. This means that each 'season' or every 3 months, a Jellicle gains one 'year' of age.
-For our purposes, every time we says a 'year of age' we literally mean 'a season' or 'one Jellicle year'.
-The "fertile period" for a female Jellicle varies for each particular cat, and lasts around a week or two per season. In this 7-14 day stretch, a female will sometimes mate with more than one of her mates as she feels suitable. She will generally mate with each of her mates during only ONE of the 'fertile periods' (but will mate other, non-kitten producing times), to prevent a 'kitten overload'.
-Female Jellicles usually have no more than three kittens per season, and generally produce no more than five over their lifetimes.
-Young Adult and Adult Jellicles have a gestation period (carry time) of three seasons.
-A Jellicle is a 'kitten' from the time he is born until the time he is 12 years (seasons) old.
-Between 12 and 18 years, a Jellicle is considered a 'teenager', being between the kitten and adult years. Training for tribe positions begins in this age range
-At 18, a Jellicle is considered young adults and able to take a mate/start a family.
-Once 25, most Jellicles are considered adults, and are though responsible and mature enough to fully take on a tribe position.
-40 is the age when Jellicles are considered elders of the tribe. After 40, most Jellicles are ready to hand down their tribe positions to the one they've been training.
-Anywhere after 50 years of age, a Jellicle is considered to have had a full life, and becomes a strong candidate for the Heavyside.
About Families
Cats don't just pop out of thin air, nor are they totally independent creatures. Below are some details about Jellicle families.
-A Jellicle kitten lives with it's mother and/or father (depending) until he or she is 12 (seasons/Jellicle years).
-At the age of 12, a teenage Jellicle is expected to move away from his parent(s), finding a home with a human (or human family) or in the junkyard.
-Siblings might share a home for anywhere from a short to long while. Mates may temporarily live together, or permanently, especially when raising a new kitten. Soul mates (see below) almost always live together.
About Mates
Jellicles, as all cats, are not monogamous creatures. What does this mean to us in this RPG? Here are some simple guidelines to help you understand.
-It is in a Jellicle's nature to find a mate and produce a progeny (aka, kittens). Due to this, Jellicle are not jealous creatures by nature.
-When a Jellicle comes of age (the equivalent of 18 human years), a Jellicle is allowed and expected to search for his/her first mate.
-Courting usually only happens one mate at a time, though there are always exceptions. depending on the personality of the Jellicles in the process, courting can either be long, short, or virtually non-existent.
-Choosing mates is done for many different reason. Some mates are chosen because of a deep caring or relationship between the cats. Others are chosen less because of caring and more for wanting the best kittens possible. Others are created by a particularly smooth talking tom or queen's 'sweet talk'.
-Not all mated pairs produce kittens, but this is generally only in the case of same-sex pairings. While not hugely common, same-sex mates are accepted inside the Jellicle tribe.
-There are few boundries on WHO a Jellicle can mate, but mating between kittens that share BOTH of the same parents is generally unheard of, even in the closest of siblings (IE Coricopat and Tantomile, Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer). Such a pairing would likely be very frowned upon.
-Another boundary is if the characters share a mother. (IE: Alonzo/Bombalurina cannot mate with Mungojerrie/Bombalurina). Jellicles consider their littermates their MOTHER'S kittens, generally, and thus have stronger sibling-ly feelings toward them.
E.G., the daughter of Demeter and Mungojerrie and the son of Demeter and Munkustrap were primarily raised with their mother, and thus would consider themselves close as siblings. Though the son of Mungojerrie and Electra is still a half sibling to the Deme/Jerrie kitten, he was raised by Electra, and there are less 'siblingly ties'.
So basically, same mom? No mating. Same dad? Probably okay (unless the father raised them together). Period. Don't fight this rule.
- Okay, okay, the warehouse cats are different. They don't really care who they're related to, as they don't really feel family ties with anyone. We're not going to stop any one warehouse cat from mating any other, as long as they're not, you know, parent/child ships. Ew.
-The number of mates any certain cat might take is very subjective. the average number of mates for a healthy, social, normal Jellicle is three. However, based on personality and position, a Jellicle might take on more.
For example:
-----Munkustrap is the Leader of the Tribe, and is therefore expected to have a numerous progeny of kittens, and therefor has more than the 'average' number of mates.
-----Jemima is a very social and friendly cat, with a lot of caring and friendship/love to go around. Thus, she took on more than the 'average' number of mates.
-----The Rum Tum Tugger is, as we all know, a very curious cat. due to his amount of admiration, he was able to secure himself six mates, double the 'average' amount.
-----Exotica is a very reserved cat, and was able to find all the love she needed from Bill Bailey. Due to the fact she was drawn so deeply to him alone, she has chosen him as her 'sole' or 'soul' mate. This does not pervent Bill Bailey from finding another mate.
-----Coricopat only found love in two cats: his twin Tantomile, and Admetus. Since he was not allowed by the 'unspoken Jellicle code' to take Tantomile a mate (as they share both parents), he found his sole/soul mate in Admetus.
