THIS TOPIC HAS BEEN MOVED FROM THE STAFF SECTION TO THE PUBLIC PLOT SECTION! WE ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO DISCUSS!
x2 asked me a question today.
And I thought it deserved discussion.
Basically, mating happens for two reasons. 1) love 2) producing kittens with good genes
Some mates, especially the ones made from pure love, will still be strong when they're older. They're the ones who still cuddle up together at night. Others may have a short spout of time being passionate with each other and then they go more their separate ways. Some are more just like great friends at this point. It's all up to the RPer.
Was Tugger in love with Electra, Etcetera, Jemima, and Victoria? Or were they just four attractive "just legal" girls that wanted to be able to say they were Tugger's mate?
It's something for RPers to discuss with each other, and a definite way to keep plot going on with the older characters.
I'll use Bombalurina and Munkustrap as examples, since I know how they feel, being my characters and all.
Bombalurina mated with Munkustrap, Rum Tum Tugger, Alonzo, and Mungojerrie. Demeter is considered a soul mate, but obviously they can't have kittens.
Bomba loves Demeter. Period. If she had to pick one mate, it'd be her. She loves Munkustrap also, partially because of how much Demeter loves him (assuming). She was obviously flirty with Tugger when she was young, and so her kitten with him should be well-expected. She had the hots for him. While she's still loving and flirty with him as an adult, she isn't in love with him. Alonzo was cute and strong and attractive, so she thought 'hey, why not?'. Again, she's flirty and lovey with dear Alonzo, but she probably wouldn't spend endless hours cuddling with him. As for Mungojerrie, well, he's a cutie, but she also had that warehouse escape connection with him. But that's really her nature. She mated with Alonzo, Mungojerrie, and Rum Tum Tugger, but her relationship with them isn't as strong. Munk and Deme are the ones she has deep, meaningful conversations with, you know?
Munkustrap, on the other hand, has Demeter, Bombalurina, Tantomile, and Cassandra. Cassandra was his first mate, as he'd been courting her before Bomba and Deme showed up. He cares very deeply for her, as she was his first love. As he became close to Bomba and Deme, he happened to have a kitten with Bomba before it was time for Deme to have hers. Munkustrap loves Demeter with all his heart and soul. Their bond is strengthened by the fact that he protected her when she was weakest (eg when she and Bomba came in as Warehouse refugees). He deeply cares for Bombalurina too, but doesn't take their relationship quite as seriously, since she has other mates she is still intimate with. He took on Tantomile once she started looking for a mate not so much for deep love, but more as a close friend he wanted to have a kitten with. But he does indeed love, just in a different way than, well, any of his others.
Demeter obviously mated with Macavity, but she would never call him her mate now. Was Mungojerrie's mating with [can't remember warehouse queen's name] a convenience, or love? How does Victoria feel about Admetus having a soul mate in Coricopat?
I think plotting these kinds of things is important for playing the first generation. And I think it'll make the adults a lot more fun to play.
THOUGHTS?

Now this seems fun, and a good idea. To start off…Bill Bailey. Bill Bailey loves both of his mates, however, since he has a soul mate, there is no question who is his favorite. Exotica is the only female that has ever taken his breath away. He loves spending time with her and remains very passionate and affectionate to her. He would do ANYTHING for her and loves her far more than any words can describe. Electra on the other hand, although he loves her, he isn’t passionately in love with her. When he met Electra, he thought she was cute and an over all interesting queen, but she didn’t match Exotica. Still though, he desired her enough to want to take her as his mate and still tries to spend time with her as well, even if Exotica is his first priority. Cassandra is a difficult one to pinpoint. This icy queen seemingly doesn’t show much affection what so ever, however, she loves deeply and will express her devotion to her mates and her kittens equally. She has her favorites though, but that comes with being a pure breed beauty. Munkustrap was her first mate, and to be quite honest, she wanted him for his position. She did, and still does care about him though, and will admit to loving him, even if he prefers Demeter over her. He was her first “love” so how could she not still have feelings for him? Cassandra mated to Alonzo and Tugger in the same year, however, at a later time. Alonzo’s protectiveness of her made her feel safe and comfortable with him while Tugger was just that hot stud that everyone wanted a taste of. She still enjoys Alonzo’s company, however, instead of being passionate in their meetings, most of the time, they just sit and talk with the occasional cuddle. Alonzo has proven to be the mate she confides in, and she loves him for that. Cassie cares for Tugger as well, but he would have to be her “least” favorite mate considering he doesn’t have much time for her, let alone anyone else. Lastly, there is Mistoffelees. Mistoffelees is her favorite mate and she will openly admit to loving him. Not only does he treat her wonderfully, but she has always been drawn to his mysterious nature. She IS his assistant after all...that HAS to count for something. Even if he might love one of his other mates more than she, that doesn’t affect her opinion nor her devotion to him. He is the one she is still completely smitten over, and she would stand by his side no matter what. Quaxo is mated to Victoria, Etcetera, and Rumpleteazer. While he is fond of all of his mates, Victoria is his favorite, followed by Cettie ,and then Teazer. Being his half sister, Victoria has always held a special place in his heart, and although at first it was hard for him to get past their relations, he grew to love her in the “affectionate” sort of way. He always feels it is his job to pamper the white princess, and will often go out of the way to make her happy. He loves her, period. Cettie on the other hand was who he was attracted too to begin with. She stirred that fire within his soul and for the first couple of years of their bond, he was very passionate and affectionate with her. The fire kinda dimmed though when Cettie began to court the Tugger, and feeling casted aside, Quaxo lost some of his passion for her. This led to his mating with Rumpleteazer. While he found Teazer cute and a blast to be around, his mating to her was more on the friendly level than the adoring one. He loves her, don’t get him wrong, but Quaxo is the type of tom that cares for all of his mates. Even if he didn’t love any of them, he would still take care of them simply because that is just the tom he is.

Cool! I never thought to do something like this.
First there's Tugger. Rum Tum Tugger has always been a total flirt and the playboy prince of the tribe. Thus it's not surprising that he should take the six mates he took. His first mate was Bombalurina. Although she was a fiery bombshell that took his breath away for a moment, he never really took to her as one of his favorite mates. She was sensual and gorgeous and made him a proud father, but their relationship was better off just as friends. Their similarities kind of got in the way when it came to being together. Next up was Cassandra. The icy queen itched Tugger's curiosity for the unknown. He refers to her as a 'Classy Lady' because that's what she is to him. She is a uptown lady who deserves nothing but the best. Although he tried giving it to her in the beginning, she started to be too high maintenance later on and so he just let her be with Alonzo. He was a better mate for her anyway. Etcetera was his next mate. The lovely little tabby had always been exciteable, optimistic and, of course, his biggest fan. She intrigued him with her idle chatter and soon became one of his favorite mates to be around. There was nothing that seemed to get his little white tabby mate upset and when it did, Tugger did his best to try and make it better. He, although he still remained a 'curious cat', adored and loved Cettie passionately. The white queen Victoria took his attention a year later; her grace and poise interesting him almost as much as Cassandra's frosty nature. She was beautiful and elegant. Two things that always made Tugger's clock tick. While he didn't adore her as much as he did Cettie, he did pay her quite a bit of attention and still does. She is a good friend to him. Next in his little black book was Electra. The fangirls from his earlier years always did interest him. He didn't mate with them solely on that fact, they all caught his attention in different way. The organized and methodological Electra made him smile despite everything that screamed for him to run the other way. The Gumbie Cat was someone that Tugger had never seen himself mating with, but with quick logic Electra caught herself up in Tugger's web of mates. She gave him a daughter that he's very proud of and he is affectionate to her still. Lastly is Jemima. The sweetnatured queen is probably the only queen in the yard who would settle for love and devotion as a sixth mate. She never seemed to want more and that was perfect for Tugger. With his attention so divided, he never seemed to have enough time to get to each of his mates. While he did mate to all of his queens for a different reason, none were really FOR love. He doesn't have a soul mate and he doesn't feel the need to be excessively possessive and passionate towards any of his mates. He does have a bit of love for them, but its spread out over all the six of them.
Macavity is an oddity. His first mate was Griddlebone; whom he respected for her brains and learnt to deal with in terms of her icy and bossy nature. He never really did pay attention to some of the stuff she said over the years, but you get the point. She gave him a son, his Atalo, as a first born and he couldn't have been prouder. His next mate, and he calls her this possessively, was Demeter. Macavity never loved Demeter, he lusted after her in his psychotic and slightly demented way. She was nothing more than a possession to him and when she gave him a daughter, he was greatly disappointed. Demeter was the one he wanted to have by his side as his High Queen and the daughter just screwed up all his plans. After she escaped, Macavity sought after her furiously; as she was his and nothing would make her any less his. She had his daughter and he would never forget that. While in between mates, Macavity was rumored to have his own taste in young toms, it didn't stop the queen Mistica from mating to him. She was a strong-willed queen who wanted more than anything else. She wanted to be the High Queen, and was furious when Macavity, in the midst of their mating, gave Griddlebone the position instead. Macavity never loved Mistica, she was just another queen to give him another possible heir. Which she did. Her son was a back-up plan just in case Atalo failed. His last mate was Sarone. While the Russian Blue queen never touched him dearly, she was beautiful and Macavity always did covet the beautiful. He made her his mate and she gave him a daughter; an unfortunate reminder of his daughter in the Junkyard. Macavity shows some love, but never affection, towards his mates. His taste in younger toms has increased over the years, and so that takes most of his attention away from his "priorities".

That question was also directed at the second generation, but yeah, this is definitely something to consider for the first generation. And as we don't really put history or personality on our canon characters, I agree with Nemi, that this would make playing the first generation characters a lot more fun. I actually thought long and hard on this. Surprising, huh? XD
Now Avidan, he's easy, he's a simple tom. He openly shows love and affection to both his mates, Sarone, and Mistica. His passion for both of them has not waned at all, and though he does love them, he probably wouldn't call himself still in love with them. Being in love is for the jellicles. And the young. He loves them both, and isn't ashamed to show it. However, he'd be the type to say to Sarone in private and alone that she was his favorite, and then end up saying the same thing to Mistica, the next time he and Mistica were alone. Others would assume, wrongly, that Sarone is his favorite, since he fell for her first, despite Mistica giving him a kitten before her. Truly he doesn't have favorites. Only having the two mates, and being able to spend more time with them then Macavity does, is enough for him.
Jemima is a sweetheart and caring by nature, but she is a queen who doesn't jump around the bush and gets straight to the point. She knew what she wanted when she was younger, and believes that her determination, caring personality and looks was what caught Alonzo's attention. She had been trying to get Tugger's attention, but he was mated to her other friends and ended up going with Alonzo, he was her first. She was more in love with the comfort and love he showed her then anything else. Though it didn't start off as love, she did grow fond of him and will make a point to show affection towards him every chance she can get. Though she adores the daughter he gave her, she adores and pampers all her kitts when the opportunity arises, so her kittens have no effect on how she treats her mates. Shortly after she mated to Alonzo, she realized that Tugger did have his eyes on her. The fact that she was his sixth mate meant nothing to her. She'd be lying if she wanted to mate to him simply because she wanted to know Tugger. Like most of the rest of his mates, she wanted him because of his looks, but she did end up falling more so in love with him then just his looks. Though he is always busy, and her being the Lillie Cat, they don't see as much of each other any more. But when she does, she still shows affection and love towards him. She'd never let Tugger slip through her fingers like he almost did before they mated. (When she mated to Alonzo thinking Tugger didn't want her) Anyway, after giving birth to Lonzo and Tugger's kitts, she did spend much of her time with them and the kitts, but they started to see less and less of her. That was when Carbucketty began to court her. He was fun, still a bit hyper, and just completely different then Tugger and Alonzo. Instantly falling for his charm she mated to him. The passion and fun they had died after a while, and though she'll still show some affection to him, they are more like best friends then anything else. This doesn't make her love their kitt any less. And she is still close to him, just the intimate attraction really isn't there anymore. Last, but not least, she found herself falling for George, somewhere in the mix of her fun fling with Carbucketty. George was a lot like Alonzo and Tugger; strong, comforting, handsome, and important. Despite wanting something different, as in Carbucketty, she found herself wanting George as well. George and her ended up mating and she gave George a daughter the same year as giving birth to Carbucketty's son. She loves Geoge, and is the only one she actually fell completely in love with. Jemima is horrified at the thought of having favorites, since, like Tugger she tries to give all her mates equal attention, and love. But deep down, she'd probably say her favorite was either Tugger or George, but she'd never admit it outloud, and Tugger, George and Lonzo are the three she does show love and affection too. Carbucketty is more so just the tom she'll talk to and make jokes with, maybe a cuddle or nuzzle here and there, but nothing too intimate. The only deep meaningful conversations she'll have with Carbucketty anymore is when it involves their son.
(Went...a little long. Oo)
Hey, it's good we're discussing this, but how are we suppose to know how the rest of the first generation characters are like when it comes to their mates?

Precisely. I think we should post these in the "Plot" section so that we can see what other people have to say about their mates.

Thread moved. Let's all set some grounding of our first generation characters. Also, let's use these 'realities' to also help guide us as our second generation kittens get old enough to start having mates.

Oje ...
To start with Electra; Electra has three mates, Mungojerrie, Rum Tum Tugger and Bill Bailey. She also took over the position of the Gumbie Cat from her mother. That was when the lively tabby matured not just physically but also mental; she became more reasonable and started to focus on her duties not just because it was now a responsibilty. Slowly Electra discovered another self of her. Her first mate was Mungojerrie who she didn't adore like probably Rumpleteazer did, since both were siblings, but though Electra looked at him with enthusiasm when she was younger; he was a kind of role model with pranks and fun, different from her other buddies. Carbucketty, two years younger than Electra, couldn't be considered as a tom with whom she would have a serious relationship. Perhaps the dark striped queen even felt more drawn forwards to Jerrie because of his and Teazer's positions as Notorious Duo than to all of her other siblings and friends since her own kitten- and teenhood was made of any sort of nonsense. However their relationship was more brotherly/sisterly from Electra's side who wasn't yet quite sure about what it meant to be mates and to love each other - especially after the birth of her first kitten. She just gladly stayed friends with Mungojerrie but their 'mate bond' split up. With Rum Tum Tugger, adoring him as a part of his fan-club, it was almost the same, just with the difference that Tugger indeed was her brother. This, and the fact that Electra too quickly got mated again with a tom whose near and stating to become partners she truly couldn't resist, made clear that she still wasn't really aware of getting close. She was proud of being Tugger's mate but knew that she wouldn't be his only one. Moreover it might be more the must of getting along affectionate than to really love each other; finally both shared one father. Though Electra didn't regret anything at anytime when both seperated on their love. Being announced as the next Gumbie Cat she finally got calmer on both, life and mates. So it lasted a bit longer until the queen for the first time truly fell deeply in love with Bill Bailey and would care and love him with all of her heart until the end. She knows of his deeper bound to Exotica and sometimes can't help but get incredible jealous of the other female but shoves everything what is asked from her forwards; ambitious to fill out her role as best as she's able to do Electra hasn't much time to brood about her former loves and mates, caring for everyone who needs help in any way. With Rum Tum Tugger and Mungojerrie she still will go along like good friends but only Bill Bailey will receive feelings that deserve to be called 'affection' and love. Her both other mates are special towards everybody else in the yard (if that is possible) and she would love them, too but rather like an older brother and a very good friend.
((Oops, a bit long ... but no one can expect something else asking me for philosophizing about Electra XD))
Griddlebone always knew how to use body and words to get whatever she wanted - no matter whether material stuff or physical contact; beautiful and vain, mixed up with a pretty high amount of self confidence and arrogance. Toms would combat and court on her and she would enjoy it. Herself the Persian considers as far too good for staying with any male for the rest of her life - well, as soon as the conditions don't go confirm with her high demand and standards; she needs attention and doesn't hesitate to show her pretty back at a tom if the queen feels like she doesn't get her deserved treatment; so she at first betrayed Growltiger and Genghis who both ended up fighting against each other, the 'sentimental pirate' adoring her, not able to show Griddlebone a clear line to walk at as well as the smooth Siamese, the other way round, not giving her back the sufficient confirmation of her beautiful uniqueness. She took their kittens though, all in all not disappointed with them and cared for her son and daugther. Macavity was the first tom the female met who indeed filled out what Griddlebone called 'proper life-style' in the case of being with her. Neither devoted nor abusive she found a sort of special relationship to him, showing back respect and dignity when she became his High Queen. If she ever loved a male or just even gave the hint of affectionate feelings, it would be to Macavity. Proud to no end of their son Atalo and always having a sharp tongue towards other members, especially Mistica, the Persian would make no secret of it. Becoming mates with Myvradden was rather something one could call One-Night-Stand or a short affair; Griddlebone gave birth to his son Roman but considered it more as a night of fun. She never truly loved Myvradden.

Okay then, here we go...
George. George. He's a sweet guy who loves both of his mates, in different ways, but he's probably a shade more in love with Jemima. Rumpelteazer, he grew up with. Childhood/teenage buddies. I'd say physical attraction was a big factor in their becoming mates (on his side at least). Her fun personality matched the playful side of his. He loves her in a casual, lighthearted way. He wanted to keep up with his friends who were taking mates. George is afraid of growing old and Rumpelteazer would definitely help counteract that. She makes him feel like a mischievous, romantic teenager. He loves it. Loves her too, even though he may not have that much when they became mates Jemima, I think, he was already in love with when they mated. There was more chemistry in that much, less curiousity. He wanted to be special to her, even though he'd be her last mate. He doesn't mind showing his love for either of his mates
As for Sillabub, she was a queen who was constantly falling in love when she a kitten and teen. She was completely taken in by Carbucketty's playful charms. She would have flirted with him when she grew older; she felt reallly comfortable being with him. Good friend and young love. She mated him for love, which deepened as time went by. Still, she's usually playful when she's around him. Just a sign of how relaxed she is with him. In a way, Silla likes that he's a connection between herself and her sister, but I could see her going into a two year long sulk when he mated Jemima first. (If Jemima and Carbucketty ever faught or fell out, she'd have to remiain completely neutral. Family loyalty is very important to her, but just as important is her mate.) Around the time of Carbucketty, there was Mistoffelees. Another teenage crush, but he'd always eemed a little more untouchable than Carby with his aloof manner. Still, she enjoyed the attention she got from him and easily fell for him. She was probably more taken in by his good looks and charm when they mated, but she's grown to love him more. Sillabub probably doesn't feel quite as close to him as he has two other mates, where as Carby just has one. She likes feeling special.
Well, there it is, roughly.

I fear mine will be way shorter.
Victoria mated Admetus during the ball because it merely happened actually. She knew Admetus from kittenhood, and teenhood. She always thought of him as a good friend and a confident. She felt very close to him because of their strong friendship they shared and it ended up in the mating and the birth of a kit. But she believed they were better off as friend, especially when it appeared Cori was his soul mate. Then came Quaxo. As his half brother, she also had a special relationship with him, though different than the one with Admetus for she shared blood with Quaxo, thus she believes she could understand Quaxo better than she could Admetus. Once again, she grew closer to the black and white tom until her feeling blossomed into love and it matters not if she is second, third or first for him, she loves him, period. As for the Tugger, she always considered him as a handsome male, he impressioned her with his manner and behavior and she always believed their offspring would be totally lovely, so she agreed with bearing his kit for gene material more than deep feeling.
As for Sarone, she doesn't care one bit for Myvvraden and was glad he died. She fell somewhat close to Avidan for she feels (at least somewhat close to being) loved when she is with him and not a single thing with Macavity, but just that she's nothing more than an object for another lusty male.

Alright, lets get to it. *cracks knuckles* ...ow.
Carbucketty has always been a very fun-loving and energetic tom and he felt that he wanted a mate just as fun-loving as him. Jemima caught his eye even before they were old enough for matehood. She's funny, very sweet, and the fact that she's pretty didn't hurt either. They were good friends, but Carby didn't know quite how to go about courting her. He felt like they were almost too much of friends. however, as he watched other toms court her he began to feel that affection he felt for Jemima growing. So, he decided to court her in his usual playful way. It was fun and he cared very passionately about her. She was his first mate and it hurt him as their relationship went back to just a friendly one. Still, he loves being affectionate to her, but he knows that she is not his soul mate. Sillabub was another pretty queen he'd taken notice of when he was younger. However, he had not tried to pursue her quite as early on since he didn't know her quite as well as her sister Sillabub. He began to get a little closer to the young queen and soon he realized that he was falling quite in love with her. Carby wondered whether or not this would cause friction between she and Jemima but at the same time he could just not resist the queens lovable laughter and sweet nature. He began to court her and when she did agree to mate with him he could not have been more pleased. Still, he still felt that he could talk to her as a good friend as well as still want to be affectionate towards her. Carby loves both of his mates and dislikes having favorites and will always says he loves them equally, Jemima was his first so he feels close to her in that way and Silla he feels is the first time he felt "in love" with. Still, as far as soul mates go he doesn't have one. He also loves the kits they gave him and even though he feels a lot more responsible now he still is just as playful as he ever was.
I'll work on Mungo's later, but I hope this is good. As for my second gen characters, Hallandor has a mate but I'm going to hold off until there's more about her. Cenwig doesn't have a mate and Henya's too young, though there's a certain someone in her future if he plays his cards right.

This is for first generation characters only, Lykaios, so you don't have to worry about Hal and them. There will be a section up soon (hopefully) for the 2nd generation characters, but they will be set up slightly different. We'll have an example and whatnot up for you.
