PLEASE NOTE!!! THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE FOR YOU ALL TO GO HUNTING FOR MATES. REMEMBER TO REREAD THE RULES BELOW IN REGARDS TO MATES! Thank you.
MATE RULES
Mating Rules:
1. All kittens must have at least one mate, though you must wait until the RPG starts to decide on a mate. Older 'kittens' will likely have one decided before the RP really starts, while younger ones are more likely to just be finding one. Feel free to RP the 'romance'.
2. Before starting a relationship with another character, you must do two things. First, PM the owner of the other character and wait for permission from that person to start the relationship. Two, PM an administrator and wait for confirmation that the couple is accepted.
3. You may only PM an administrator about a mating AFTER you have had some interaction with that character! Your request will not be approved if the administrator does not think that you have interacted enough. This is so RPers put more thought into their mates.
4. Cats mate with multiple partners. It's a fact. Deal with it. If you want your character to have a soul mate, make sure that's acceptable with the other person first, and then PM an administrator to confirm. We may deny your request if we see fit, and if we do, that's final. No complaining. It's our board, we'll do what we want. So there. Soul Mates do not mean that the character will not take another mate in the future (or have taken one in the past), but it is an exceptionally strong bond.
4. You cannot have two of your kittens be mates. For example, if you play as a Munkustrap/Demeter kitten and the Rum Tum Tugger/Victoria kitten, you can't have the two be mates. Because that's just stupid. And not too much fun for you or anyone else.
5. Homosexual relationships are permitted. If you have a problem with homosexual relationships, than you should leave the board.
6. The show characters are past their prime. They will not be involved in further relationships unless they are designated soul mates.
7. PLEASE READ THE 'JELLICLE CUSTOMS' section of 'information' for more information on mates.
IN FIGURING IT OUT
Going along with the way mates were done for the first generation, this is how I've decided how many mates the characters can have. Since it will be awhile before we can do anything with the Third Generation, I'm thinking that I might not end up doing a third generation part of the RP afterall. With the number of characters we have, no matter what we do there is always going to be an overwhelming number of characters to play. Now, if we manage to get a whole pile of new members around a time that might be good to start up the TTG thing, then I might consider. Anyways... so it goes like this:
- Jellicle Leader is expected to have more mates than normal to create the most progeny possible (4)
- The Curious Cat is also expected to be more promiscuous and therefore has a higher number of mates possible (4)
- Outgoing/Social cats will have an average number of mates (3)
- "Normal" cats will have about average (2-3)
- Shyer cats will likely take less than average (1-2)

ON SAME-SEX MATES
I've been thinking really long and hard about this point. Last time I had it set up that each characters could have the possibility of taking 1 same-sex mate on top of the mates they had. I'm actually regretting that decision because I feel like it gave RPers an excuse to go over the limit of mates.
This time around I've decided that same-sex mates will work like they did in the first generation. They weren't terribly common, but nor were they looked down upon. Take Admetus and Coricopat for example. I think that if Coricopat had taken on another mate other than Admetus, it likely would have been another male mate. Personal thought, but anyway... uhhh, train of thought gone... right. So same-sex mates will be somewhat limited. If a character is deemed to be bi-sexual OR homosexual they will be allowed to take a same-sex mate.
Now, on this same thought, I'm not going to be going around and announcing that if you think your character is bi-sexual they can take a partner. It won't work like that. I want to be able to monitor RPers and if (for example if x2 wanted to have Illumina with possibly female-only partners) they actually feel that their characters work better with the same sex, then fine.
And going on with this, bi-sexual mates will be limited to one per character IF they feel they meet the requirements listed above. Homosexual characters will, obviously, only have same-sex mates and will likely only be able to find one or two mates.
INTER-TRIBE RELATIONSHIPS
Since this ball kind of got rolling anyway, these are my thoughts on it. There are definitely going to be LIMITED numbers of inter-tribe relations allowed. I don't want there to be a whole pile of mixed blood kittens running around.
The following are my thoughts on the inter-tribe relations:
- There must be a VALID reason for the member to be at the other tribe
- There must be a WELL THOUGHT OUT and DETAILED plot for the relationship
- If I don't think it sounds good enough, I will reject it. No questions asked. Fight this and you will regret it. (yeah, I know... I'm a b*tch)
- Twins will not be permitted with inter-tribe relations
- There don't necessarily have to be mateships made out of the relation. There can possibly just be a kitten that is brought about from the meeting.
